ISCC Nutritional Standards Review and Recognition
For schools operating self-managed catering services, ISCC can undertake a Nutritional Standards Review led by our registered nutritionist.
The review provides an independent assessment of the school’s catering provision, examining whether menus, ingredients and service practices support the health, wellbeing and dietary needs of pupils.
The review considers a number of key areas, including:
✔ Menu structure and nutritional balance across the school week
✔ Ingredient selection and food sourcing practices
✔ Recipe composition and portion guidance
✔ Dining experience and food presentation
✔ Alignment with recognised good practice in school nutrition
Following the review, schools receive a short summary report outlining strengths, areas for development and practical recommendations where improvements may be beneficial.Where a school’s catering provision demonstrates a consistently balanced and nutritionally appropriate offer, ISCC may confirm that the provision meets our “Nutritionist Approved” standard.Schools may choose to reference this within menus or parent communications as confirmation that their catering provision has been independently reviewed against recognised nutritional principles.The review can also be repeated periodically to support continuous improvement and provide ongoing reassurance to governors and leadership teams that the school’s food provision continues to meet strong nutritional standards.
